Stephanie Barnhill Neal is a photographer, artist, writer, and journalist. More importantly, she’s a multigenerational North Carolinian, who is passionate about sharing stories about her state’s past through the use of visual arts and nonfiction writing.

She is the owner of Urban Fringe, an indie media/publishing company that focuses on North Carolina’s arts and culture scene. Stephanie has recently been signed by Arcadia Publishing for an upcoming book about North Carolina’s Carolina Bay lakes and wetlands. The book, set to be released in 2024 will chronicle her travels and exploration by kayak and foot, as well as the diverse ecology, history, and recreational uses of the landforms. It will feature a color insert of her photography works from her travels across the eastern part of the state.

Stephanie lives in Harnett County, North Carolina with her husband, children, and eight cats. She is an avid kayaker, naturalist, and art lover. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and watching documentaries or true crime stories.
